A ceiling fan in a well-used room reduces cooling costs in summer and recirculates warm air in winter. We install ceiling fans in rooms that already have a light fixture and in rooms where no ceiling electrical box currently exists.

Types of ceiling fan installations

The simplest installation is a like-for-like swap: your old light fixture comes down, a fan-rated electrical box goes in, and the new ceiling fan mounts in its place. This typically takes one to two hours.

Adding a ceiling fan where no fixture exists requires running new wiring from the panel or an existing circuit, installing a fan-rated box, and connecting the fan. The scope depends on ceiling height, attic access, and the distance to an existing circuit.

Fan-rated electrical boxes

Ceiling fans must be supported by fan-rated electrical boxes, not the lightweight boxes used for light fixtures. We always verify or replace the box before mounting any fan. This is a code requirement and a safety issue. An undersized box can fail under the dynamic load of a spinning fan.

Remote and smart controls

We can add remote control capability or install a smart ceiling fan switch as part of the installation. If your room does not have a neutral wire at the switch (common in older Lexington homes), we can install a compatible smart switch that works without a neutral.
